Halifax Harbour Solutions Collection Piping
Dillon Consulting Limited
» Scope of Project
Dillon partnered with another local consulting firm to form Harbour Engineering Incorporated, and provided planning and detailed design services for the design and construction of the Halifax Sewage Collection System as part of the Halifax Harbour Solutions project.
» Execution
The Halifax collection system included gravity collection trunks ranging in diameter between 450 mm and 1350 mm; forcemains with diameters between 150 mm and 1200 mm, three new pumping stations with capacities between 0.015 m3/s and 1.51 m3/s and modifications to an existing pumpingstation to provide a capacity of 2.81 m3/s. The design of the Dartmouth Sewage Collection System included 7000 m of piping and three pump stations. As part of the Harbour Engineering partnership, Dillon was involved with the concept development, proposal preparation, contract negotiation, final design and part time construction administration of the collection system for the $116M project. Dillon was responsible for the design of the collection system, design of the replacement of four new marine outfalls and the detailed design and coordination of civil, mechanical, architectural, electrical and process design disciplines for three new pumping stations and modifications
to an existing pumping station of this design build project.
» Project Highlights
All facilities were designed to meet strict stipulations regarding issues such as design capacity, life span of structural, mechanical, and electrical components, maintenance requirements, air emissions and odour control, and noise pollution.
