» Scope of Project
This project was for the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg at a value of $4.5 M. It was successfully completed in September in 2006. Discharge of inadequately treated sanitary wastewater to a freshwater environment represents one of the most damaging impacts prevalent in an urban community. The hamlet of Cookville in Lunenburg County has been the site of one of the fastest growing commercial developments in Atlantic Canada.

Discharge of inadequately treated sanitary wastewater to a freshwater environment represents one of the most damaging impacts prevalent in an urban community. The hamlet of Cookville in Lunenburg County has been the site of one of the fastest growing commercial developments in Atlantic Canada. The area had no sewage system to handle the rapid commercial and residential growth, and connecting to the Town of Bridgewater’s existing sewage treatment plant proved impractical. Concern for the nearby LaHave River meant Nova Scotia Environment required a new treatment plant to meet one of the highest and most stringent standards ever established for municipal wastewater treatment in Nova Scotia. Our successful design, construction and commissioning of the Cookville Membrane Bioreactor Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) by the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg represents a milestone in the development of wastewater treatment infrastructure in Atlantic Canada.
» Project Highlights
Design and construction of an inlet screen, flow equalization basin, anoxic denitrification tank, pre-arcation tank, membrane bioreactor tank, UV disinfection system, sludge storage tank, sludge filter press.
The Cookville Membrane Bioreactor Wastewater Treatment Plant met or exceeded criteria on a consistent basis.
The team was awarded the 2008 Lieutenant-Governor's Award for Excellence in Engineering for this project.
