CENS welcomed Kate Friars, B.Sc. as our new Executive Director in September 2023 to ensure a smooth transition as Skit Ferguson prepared for retirement in October. Kate has 35+ years in municipal government, working as part of senior management teams in major municipalities across Canada. After retiring and returning to her home province, Kate spent the last several years working with the Municipality of East Hants in a variety of senior management capacities, including project management of the East Hants Aquatic Centre and as Deputy Chief Administrative Officer.

Kate’s skill set will elevate communication with current members and encourage new member recruitment. We all look forward to her leadership in developing programs which address both industry and business issues.

Kate is a collaborator and is already reaching out to other industry associations to find ways that common concerns or topics of interest can be addressed together. If she hasn’t reached out yet she will be in the coming weeks.

As a client of our industry, she brings a unique perspective and thoughtfulness to the role. We welcome her insights as we look at ways to ensure CENS represent the needs of Consulting Engineers in Nova Scotia.

For more information about CENS, our members, how to hire an engineer or general questions about the profession of consulting engineering in Nova Scotia, contact Kate at (902) 223-1674 or executivedirector@cens.org.
